As some of you will know I have a long standing association with Street Soccer Academy. Check them out. If you can support them financially, or even better, by getting involved, then do so!
Last Friday and Saturday they hosted Soccer 24, the premier fundraiser for the Academy. While it's just another 24 hours for some, for the Academy it's a life-changing one. The blood sweat, tears and funds generated through Soccer 24 provides a cash injection towards the vital work the Academy does in supporting vulnerable adults in a holistic way across their lives. Previously there's been two Soccer 24's held each year. This year, in a brave move, the two events were condensed into one, ambitiously aiming for the combined fundraising total in one event.
The other new feature was that two sponsor businesses took on the daunting task of providing players for the rep squad to play the 24 hours and raise a ton of cash in the process. No mean feat any time. Anyone who knows me knows that I've competed in 3 Soccer 24's now as a rep squad member and one as a photographer. It's a huge thing to be a part of!
The radio commentary team from FC United Manchester were also on hand to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest ever football commentary. They were well stocked with supplies and ready for a long shift.
I played my smallest role this year as photographer for the first two matches generating some promotional images from the event.
